It was dark and cold when I went for my run this morning. The only nice thing about a 5:00 am run on this Monday morning was to look up at the cloudless sky and have a perfect view of God's magnificent universe.  The stars were out in all their glory, and it was a breathtaking sight.  Normally I have a blog post written by now, but today I had nothing ready.  As I ran, mostly distracted by the visual treat of the stars, I contemplated what I wanted to say today - but nothing was coming to mind.

It wasn't until about half way through my run that it happened. It was over in less than two seconds.  I was gazing up at the stars (as long as you're running on a straight, smooth road you can do this) when I witnessed the shooting star.  Literally, it was over before I could take more than a few steps. A bright streak through the sky. After it happened, I could barely find the spot in the sky that it happened.  I think God sent that shooting star just for me this morning - because immediately I was struck by a spiritual analogy.

We are all basically shooting stars in God's galaxy.  For thousands of years, men and women have been gazing up at the same stars that you and I see on any given night. Day after day, night after night, they show up in the sky right on time, exactly where they are supposed to be.  That sense of timeless permanence - that's a picture of GOD and his domain.  A shooting star - it appears for a second or two - and then it is gone. It's bright, and fast, and vibrant for that fraction of a moment - and then it's over. That's us. That's our physical life in relation to God's universe.  We exist for this tiny window of time. And then we're gone.  James said it this way - "For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away." (Ja 4:14)

So what are you going to do with your two seconds?  Are you making the most of time that God has given you? Or are you wasting precious time?  Take it from someone who has already spent a few decades here on the earth - (don't start with me - I still have a couple of good decades  left!) TIME GOES BY IN A HEARTBEAT.  Make the most of the time God has given you today. Use it for his glory.  You may be a shooting star today, but the day is coming when your light will never dim or fade - until then, give HIM your very best, and seize the day!
